About this course

One of the most misunderstood conditions in clinical practice.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is one of the most misunderstood and frequently misdiagnosed mental health conditions. Despite its prevalence, many clinicians receive limited training in recognizing OCD across its diverse presentations — or in delivering evidence-based treatment.

This 8-week training gives you a practical, evidence-based framework for assessing, conceptualizing, and treating OCD. You'll learn to recognize both overt and covert compulsions, differentiate OCD from commonly confused conditions, and identify it across both common and frequently overlooked presentations. The emphasis is on accurate assessment, differential diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment — with a primary focus on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).

You'll also be introduced to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions, and Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT), including how these approaches can thoughtfully complement ERP. Through case examples, clinical demonstrations, and practical application, you'll build skills you can use in your work with clients.

By the end of the training, you'll have practical skills you can incorporate into your clinical work right away.

1

Differentiate OCD from commonly confused conditions — including generalized anxiety disorder, depressive disorders, OCPD, and psychotic disorders.

2

Administer and interpret commonly used OCD assessment measures to evaluate symptom severity and inform treatment planning.

3

Identify overt and covert compulsions — including mental rituals, reassurance-seeking, avoidance, and family accommodation.

4

Describe the processes that maintain OCD, including the obsession–distress–compulsion cycle.

5

Recognize OCD across a range of symptom presentations and identify commonly overlooked manifestations of the disorder.

6

Develop case formulations that map obsessions, compulsions, avoidance behaviors, and maintaining mechanisms.

7

Apply the core principles of ERP — including hierarchy development, exposure design, and response prevention strategies.
